SkyTab POS vs Odoo POS: Shift4 Dine Features, Pricing, and Migration

Odoo POS is a strong SkyTab alternative for restaurants that need ordering, purchasing, inventory, and accounting connected within one ERP system. SkyTab, renamed Shift4 Dine, provides tableside service, integrated payments, kitchen displays, online ordering, and guest tools. Odoo extends restaurant management into supplier orders, stock receipts, vendor bills, and financial reporting.

That distinction matters to a single restaurant reconciling purchases in separate applications as much as to a group managing several locations. Shift4 Dine remains a capable restaurant platform, particularly where its payment hardware and hospitality integrations already meet operational requirements.

Is SkyTab Now Shift4 Dine?

SkyTab POS officially became Shift4 Dine on May 12, 2026. Shift4 confirmed that existing customers could continue using their accounts, integrations, reporting, support, and familiar workflows without a system migration. Its rebranding announcement describes a name change rather than a different restaurant POS.

Some pricing pages and help articles still use SkyTab. This comparison uses both names for the same product. SkyTab Venue was separately renamed Shift4 Venue and is not the restaurant POS evaluated here.

Shift4 Dine vs Odoo: Restaurant Service and Business Operations

Table Service, Modifiers, and Kitchen Preparation

Shift4 Dine supports floor plans, open tickets, check splitting, tableside payments, and coursing. Its handhelds let servers take orders and process eligible payments at the table. Kitchen displays and printers route items to the correct preparation stations.

Shift4 also supports nested modifiers. Selecting a side of baked potato, for example, can reveal additional choices for toppings or preparation. Those relationships determine the order shown to the server and the instructions sent to the kitchen.

Odoo POS supports floor plans, merged tables, transfers, split bills, tips, and course management. Restaurant employees can hold main courses while appetizers are prepared, then release the next course from the existing order. Preparation displays and printers route products according to configured categories.

A migration must preserve required choices, nested options, kitchen routing, prices, and course behavior. A product list containing item names and prices cannot reproduce those controls on its own.

Online Ordering and Guest Management

Shift4 Dine supports online ordering and connections to delivery services. Its menu tools determine which products and modifiers appear on supported ordering channels. Shift4 also provides reservations, waitlists, loyalty, gift cards, and customer management.

Odoo supports restaurant self-ordering, website sales, customer records, loyalty, and gift cards. Bookings can be configured using Odoo Appointments. Delivery-marketplace connections or specialized guest experiences may require integrations.

Restaurants operating dine-in, pickup, and delivery channels should test product availability, tax treatment, kitchen tickets, refunds, and customer credits across each channel.

Inventory and Ingredient Costs

Shift4 Dine tracks item quantities, stock thresholds, costs, and availability. Its Inventory Detail Report shows recorded stock and values, useful for packaged products and items with limited daily quantities.

Ingredient costing usually requires more than an item counter. Shift4 lists partners such as MarginEdge and MarketMan for recipe, purchasing, and inventory processes. Restaurants using those integrations should establish where ingredient and supplier data is actually stored.

Odoo Inventory handles receipts, stock locations, adjustments, transfers, and replenishment. An independent restaurant can receive produce and drinks against its purchasing records; a group can distribute those products from a shared warehouse.

Odoo POS does not automatically deduct every raw ingredient when a prepared dish sells. That requires a configured production, recipe-consumption, or equivalent workflow, potentially with an extension or integration. Restaurants should compare the effort of reproducing a functioning MarketMan or MarginEdge process with the benefit of connecting other activities through Odoo.

Supplier Purchasing and Financial Accounting

Shift4 Dine provides financial and sales reports, while connected inventory and accounting applications can handle supplier orders, invoice processing, and general-ledger activity. The data exchanged depends on each integration.

Odoo Purchase manages vendor records and purchase orders. Inventory records deliveries, and Odoo Accounting handles vendor bills and reconciliation.

Suppose a restaurant orders 20 cases of beverages, receives 17, and is billed for 20. Odoo can retain the order and received quantity in linked records, so accounting staff can review the discrepancy under the configured billing controls. A single-location restaurant can benefit from this process without operating a separate warehouse.

Multiple Locations, Labor, and Reporting

Shift4 Dine centralizes menus across groups and locations. Its inheritance and override system lets an individual restaurant override an inherited price or other supported field while leaving the remaining values connected to the central record. Nested modifier relationships have their own restrictions and should be checked separately.

Odoo can manage several POS configurations alongside warehouse locations, transfers, purchasing, and company accounting. Different legal entities may require its multi-company features and corresponding financial controls.

Shift4 offers employee timeclock, scheduling, and labor reporting. Optional Workforce Management provides additional scheduling and timecard capabilities. Odoo Employees, Attendances, and Planning cover related functions, but U.S. payroll and tip compliance require a separate review.

SkyTab / Shift4 Dine vs Odoo POS Pricing

Shift4 Dine POS and Processing

Shift4’s SkyTab pricing configurator currently advertises a table-service bundle under the earlier brand.

Published ItemU.S. Advertised Price
Table Service Bundle$29.99/month
Upfront amount in the displayed configuration$0
Standard card-processing rate2.75% + $0.15 per transaction
Advantage ProgramAlternative payment arrangement
Custom merchant pricingBy quotation

The displayed bundle includes a 14-inch workstation, integrated card reader, cash drawer, receipt printer, and POS software. These are advertised terms for that configuration, not guaranteed pricing for every merchant. Any promotional software-fee waiver, equipment commitment, or Advantage Program arrangement must be confirmed in the signed quote.

Shift4 also publishes these separate charges for applicable services:

Optional Shift4 ServicePublished U.S. Charge
Handheld device$29.99 per device/month
Workforce Management$35 per location/month after an applicable trial
Shift4 Gift Card Program$25 per merchant ID/month

These fees are not automatically payable by every restaurant. Contract inclusions, trials, applicable equipment, and merchant arrangements determine which charges apply. Physical gift cards and other optional services may cost extra.

Odoo POS Subscription Pricing

Standard$24.90 promotional; $31.10 regular per user/monthAnnual billing, standard applications
Custom$49 promotional; $61 regular per user/monthAnnual billing, customization and additional options

Odoo’s pricing includes promotional conditions. One App Free does not provide unrestricted use of POS, Purchase, Inventory, and Accounting together. Paid plans include standard business applications, but implementation, hardware, payment processing, and specialized development may cost extra.

How Much Would Shift4 Processing Cost?

At the published standard rate, 1,000 transactions averaging $25 produce $25,000 in monthly card volume:

ExpenseIllustrative Amount
Percentage fee: 2.75% of $25,000$687.50
Transaction fees: 1,000 × $0.15$150.00
Processing subtotal$837.50
Advertised table-service bundle$29.99
Subtotal before add-ons$867.49

If the restaurant also pays for one handheld, Workforce Management, and one Shift4 Gift Card merchant ID, those published charges total another $89.99 per month, making the illustrative amount $957.48 before other charges. This is not a guaranteed merchant invoice or an Odoo cost estimate.

Odoo’s software subscription must be evaluated alongside a separate payment-provider quote, compatible equipment, staff licensing, integrations, and implementation.

Hardware and Offline Payments

Can SkyTab Equipment Run Odoo?

Shift4 workstations, handhelds, and payment devices should not be assumed compatible with Odoo or transferable to a different processor. Some independent printers or other peripherals may be reusable after specific compatibility checks.

Odoo supports compatible browser devices and selected payment terminals. Equipment ownership, return requirements, merchant-processing terms, and replacement costs need confirmation before cutover.

What Happens to Shift4 Offline Transactions?

Shift4 Dine can store eligible card payments locally when its payment gateway cannot be reached. Once connected, it sends transactions for authorization; some can subsequently decline. Refunds and pre-authorizations are unavailable in offline payment mode.

According to Shift4’s offline-payment FAQs, terminals attempt to update stored transaction statuses for up to two days. An outage beyond that period can create reporting discrepancies. This is not a universal two-day transaction-expiration deadline.

Pending payments are processed through a queue after reconnection. Managers must allow time for that queue to clear, investigate declined or unresolved transactions, and avoid wiping device data with payments outstanding. The local network can continue supporting printers and kitchen displays when connected; certain customer-facing devices cannot accept offline payments.

Odoo can continue some locally available ordering activities, but card-payment authorization depends on the selected provider and hardware. Test the actual network, kitchen, and payment recovery process before going live.

How to Migrate From SkyTab / Shift4 Dine to Odoo POS

Shift4 Dine data is distributed across menu reports, transactions, customer records, inventory snapshots, gift cards, and connected applications. There is no single documented Shift4 export that reconstructs every restaurant configuration in Odoo.

1. Review Contracts and Connected Applications

Document workstations, handhelds, kitchen screens, payment terminals, location accounts, subscription charges, and settlement arrangements. Record active reservations, loyalty, gift cards, online ordering, and integrations such as MarginEdge, MarketMan, and accounting software.

Review device ownership, merchant agreements, renewal dates, and any payment or customer obligations before scheduling cancellation.

2. Export Menu Records From Customer Hub

Shift4 Dine’s menu export guidance describes reports generated through Customer Hub rather than directly from a POS workstation.

Menu ReportMain Fields
Menu (Simple)Department, item name, price
Menu Item DetailItem, UPC, price, cost, markup, revenue class, department, status
Menu with DescriptionDepartment, item name, description, price

These reports help create Odoo products but do not reproduce full nested modifiers, kitchen routing, tax settings, courses, or ordering screens.

3. Reconstruct Modifiers and Location Overrides

A steak entrée with a required side and nested baked-potato choices needs its selection logic and prices rebuilt, not simply the names of its modifiers.

At multiple locations, check inherited enterprise values and field-level overrides for products, prices, modifiers, courses, and kitchen assignments. Shift4’s bulk menu editing tools help manage settings but are not a comprehensive import-ready export.

Shift4 InformationOdoo Requirement
Items and departmentsProducts and POS categories
Required and nested choicesModifiers and ordering logic
Kitchen stationsPreparation routing
Taxes and revenue classesCorrect tax and accounting configuration
CoursesRestaurant service stages
Online visibilityChannel-specific availability
Location overridesVerified branch-specific prices and settings

4. Archive Transactions and Reconcile Payments

Shift4 Dine’s Transaction Manager supports transaction searches and CSV or Excel exports. Preserve relevant sales, payment, tax, tips, discounts, refunds, and settlement records.

Reconcile pending offline transactions after their processing queue clears. A transaction visible in Customer Hub may not yet have final authorization. Historical Shift4 transactions should not be assumed to become native Odoo POS sessions; retain source reports for accounting and audit reference.

5. Export Customers and Reconcile Gift Cards

Shift4’s Customer Database supports CSV, Excel, and PDF exports. Gift-card reports and loyalty records require separate assessment.

Customer contact data does not automatically transfer rewards, outstanding balances, customer credits, marketing permissions, or stored payment credentials. Document a valid redemption or transfer process for those obligations.

6. Establish Opening Inventory and Odoo Workflows

Shift4’s inventory reports provide item quantities, costs, and values, but physical counts should determine verified opening stock. Recipes, ingredients, vendors, and purchasing data held by MarginEdge or MarketMan must be retrieved from those providers.

Configure Odoo products, units, stock locations, purchasing, vendor bills, and any required ingredient-consumption process. Test menu orders, table transfers, modifiers, kitchen routing, refunds, terminals, offline recovery, stock receipts, and financial reconciliation.

A phased Odoo implementation process should complete these checks and staff training before the existing POS is retired.
