Odoo POS vs PAR Brink POS: QSR Features, Pricing, and Migration

Odoo POS is a strong PAR Brink alternative for restaurant groups that want POS, purchasing, inventory, accounting, and company operations connected through one ERP system. PAR POS already handles enterprise menus, complex combos, drive-thru operations, and kitchen routing, with further capabilities available through PAR OPS and PAR Engagement. Odoo connects restaurant activity with warehouses, production, financial accounting, and other business divisions.

For QSR and fast-casual chains, a migration must preserve modifier pricing, location-specific menus, kitchen timing, payment processes, and the data maintained in separate PAR products.

Odoo’s advantage is an integrated business operating model: restaurant sales can feed the purchasing, warehouse, inventory, and financial processes needed across the company, including activities beyond foodservice.

Is Brink POS Now Called PAR POS?

Brink POS became PAR POS on September 12, 2024, when PAR also renamed PAR MENU to PAR Ordering. PAR later introduced PAR Engagement in June 2025, combining ordering, loyalty, marketing and offers, and guest data in a modular guest-engagement suite.

PAR productFunction
PAR POS (Brink)Counter transactions, menus, restaurant and kitchen controls
PAR OPSRestaurant inventory, recipes, purchasing, labor, reporting
PAR EngagementGuest engagement portfolio covering PAR Ordering, Punchh Loyalty, marketing and guest data
PAR PaySupported payment-processing services

Punchh Loyalty has not disappeared. PAR identifies it as the loyalty engine within PAR Engagement, and existing customers may use it or Ordering separately rather than purchasing every module.

These are distinct products and services. A PAR POS subscription does not automatically include the full PAR OPS or PAR Engagement feature set.

PAR Brink vs Odoo: Restaurant and ERP Operations

Counter Service, Combos, and Modifier Tiers

PAR POS supports items, modifier groups, combo components, menu levels, and destinations such as dine-in, takeaway, and drive-thru. Its modifier-group and tier configuration supports required selections, minimum and maximum limits, included choices, and charges for higher-tier substitutions.

Odoo POS supports counter orders, floor plans, split bills, tips, products, pricelists, and configurable options. Restaurants can maintain different POS configurations and price rules for separate outlets.

A value meal may include a sandwich, a standard side, and a drink, while charging extra for a larger side. The migration must preserve three relationships:

  • Selection logic: Which items satisfy the combo and how many choices are required.
  • Price logic: Which choices are included, which trigger an upgrade charge, and where location prices differ.
  • Preparation logic: Which items and substitutions reach the fryer, grill, and beverage station.

Importing item names and selling prices will not reconstruct these rules. Odoo’s standard configuration should be assessed first, with extensions reserved for specific ordering behavior it does not support.

Drive-Thru Sequencing, Kitchen Displays, and Service Speed

PAR POS supports kitchen routing, expo queues, and drive-thru-specific controls. Its kitchen settings include identifying and managing out-of-sequence orders. PAR also documents drive-thru send-time sorting for supported setups.

Odoo provides preparation displays and printers that can direct items to kitchen stations by category. Course handling supports dine-in service, while self-ordering and suitable integrations can extend order intake.

For a dual-lane drive-thru, the operating requirements may include matching each vehicle to its order, reorganizing the expo queue, and maintaining timing through peak demand. Standard Odoo preparation screens are not a verified substitute for every PAR drive-thru function. Specialized lane sequencing may require an integration or targeted development.

Restaurants should test preparation routing and throughput using actual order patterns rather than assuming feature names describe equivalent behavior.

Digital Ordering, Loyalty, and Guest Data

PAR Engagement brings together PAR Ordering, Punchh Loyalty, marketing and offers, and guest-data products. PAR Ordering serves supported web, mobile, and kiosk experiences, while Punchh Loyalty manages earning, redemption, and membership rules.

The PAR Engagement product information confirms the products can be adopted modularly. A chain may have one combination of ordering and loyalty services without licensing the entire suite.

Odoo provides self-ordering, website-related workflows, loyalty, gift cards, customer records, and CRM. Branded apps, specialized delivery marketplaces, complex redemption logic, and advanced guest-data functions may require external systems or development.

A chain moving its online orders to Odoo must preserve channel-specific items, modifiers, promotions, taxes, fees, order timing, and kitchen routing. Loyalty balances, unused gift cards, guest consent, and prepaid transactions also require distinct migration treatment. Importing customer contact details is not enough to move financial or program obligations.

Recipe Inventory, Theoretical Usage, and Waste

PAR OPS Inventory includes recipes, theoretical ingredient usage, physical stock counts, waste, and prepared items. Its cost-of-goods workflows support comparisons between expected ingredient consumption and recorded stock activity.

For example, selling 200 chicken sandwiches may generate theoretical demand for a specified quantity of chicken and bread. Actual counts, preparation waste, and recipe yields help investigate a difference between expected and observed inventory.

Odoo Inventory supports supplier receipts, warehouses, internal transfers, stock adjustments, and replenishment. A central kitchen can receive ingredients and distribute them to restaurants, catering operations, and other business units.

Standard Odoo POS does not automatically deduct every raw ingredient when a meal sells. Ingredient consumption requires a configured production, recipe, or equivalent workflow, potentially including an extension or integration. Existing PAR OPS recipe definitions and conversion factors must be mapped rather than replaced with finished-product counts.

Consistent restaurant menu costing also depends on ingredient units, supplier prices, preparation yields, and recorded waste. Odoo can connect the resulting stock records with purchasing and accounting.

Supplier Orders, Receiving, and Vendor Bills

PAR OPS supports supplier purchasing, receiving, invoices, and exports to external accounting systems. Its purchase-management activities provide workflows for orders and delivered quantities.

Odoo Purchase manages suppliers, prices, orders, and replenishment. Inventory records receipts, and Odoo Accounting manages vendor bills, taxes, journals, and reconciliation.

If a commissary orders 60 cases of produce but receives 54, the configured Odoo workflow can retain the original order, actual receipt, and supplier bill for review. Inventory transfers then distribute the received goods to individual restaurants or a wholesale operation.

PAR OPS provides purchasing and accounting exports. Odoo can maintain the corresponding supplier, stock, and financial records within one ERP environment, reducing the need to move routine purchasing data between separate accounting products.

Multi-Location Controls, Labor, and Financial Reporting

PAR POS supports groups of locations, centrally published settings, and enterprise reporting. Its Settings Editor allows authorized changes to be published to selected locations. PAR OPS adds labor scheduling, timekeeping, forecasting, and operational reporting through applicable modules.

Odoo can manage multiple POS configurations, warehouses, inventory locations, accounting structures, and company permissions. For franchised or separately incorporated operations, multi-company access controls and financial boundaries must be designed explicitly.

A QSR company that also produces bottled sauces may use Odoo ERP for restaurants to coordinate restaurant sales, central ingredient purchasing, packaging production, wholesale orders, and accounting.

Odoo Employees, Attendances, and Planning provide staff-related functionality. Specialized restaurant scheduling, U.S. payroll taxes, and tip distribution may need further configuration or a dedicated payroll provider. Neither a POS labor report nor standard employee records automatically replace payroll compliance processes.

PAR Brink POS vs Odoo POS Pricing

How Much Does PAR POS Cost?

PAR generally provides tailored quotations rather than one public all-inclusive price for its enterprise POS. The scope may combine PAR POS, selected PAR OPS capabilities, PAR Engagement modules, payment services, equipment, and support.

PAR expenseWhat the quote should identify
PAR POSLocations, terminals, enterprise services and support
PAR OPSInventory, purchasing, labor and reporting modules
PAR EngagementOrdering, Punchh Loyalty, offers and guest data as contracted
PAR Pay or third-party processingTerminal setup, processing rates, transaction terms
Hardware and deploymentWorkstations, KDS, peripherals, installation
Integration and supportInterfaces, renewal conditions and service scope

PAR Engagement’s launch was not itself a mandatory price increase for existing Punchh or Ordering contracts, according to PAR. New modules may be quoted separately. Comparing POS-only pricing with a full ERP deployment would not reflect the same operational scope.

Odoo POS Subscription Pricing

Odoo planPublished U.S. priceScope
One App Free$0One eligible application and dependencies

Custom$49 promotional; $61 regular per user/monthCustomization, external API, multi-company options

Standard and Custom figures use annual billing. Published promotional rates apply to eligible initial users for 12 months. Paid plans include standard POS, Purchase, Inventory, and Accounting applications; One App Free does not make the complete ERP free.

The Odoo pricing page sets out the plan conditions. Hardware, merchant processing, implementation, integration, and custom development remain separate project costs.

Which Offers Better Long-Term Value?

Odoo offers broader long-term value for restaurant groups connecting POS with procurement, warehouses, accounting, and other business operations. Paid subscriptions provide access to standard ERP applications, so the group can manage shared products, suppliers, stock movements, and financial records through configured workflows.

A chain operating restaurants, a commissary, and wholesale distribution can coordinate those activities in Odoo rather than introducing a separate general-purpose ERP to manage processes beyond the restaurant. The commercial case rests on the applications and manual transfers that can be consolidated, not a guaranteed lower terminal license price.

PAR POS vs Odoo: Hardware, Payments, and Offline Service

PAR POS supports restaurant workstations, printers, kitchen screens, payment devices, and a configurable register network. Certain equipment may be reusable with Odoo after device-level verification, but PAR payment terminals should not be assumed compatible with an Odoo-supported processor.

PAR’s in-store resilience design allows an eligible backup register to take over when the primary fails. The documented setup requires a suitable terminal topology; it does not maintain incoming online orders during a connection failure.

Some supported Datacap payment configurations include store-and-forward, subject to eligibility, settings, and later decline risk. Odoo can handle supported locally available POS activity, but offline card authorization depends on its terminal and provider.

A migration should validate the actual register network, kitchen printing, card recovery, batch settlement, and synchronization. These operational tests are necessary whether the project replaces PAR POS or integrates it with Odoo.

When Should a Restaurant Chain Adopt Odoo Instead of PAR Brink?

Restaurant group requirementOdoo capability
Restaurant and wholesale orders share inventorySales, Inventory and warehouse rules
A commissary supplies several locationsManufacturing, locations and transfers
Purchasing and bills need coordinated controlsPurchase, receipts and Accounting
Multiple legal entities need separate booksMulti-company configuration
Existing specialized drive-thru functions must remainControlled PAR-to-Odoo integration
Different departments maintain duplicate supplier recordsShared supplier and product master data

An Odoo project can modernize back-office processes first, then extend to POS replacement where the required ordering, kitchen, and payment workflows are supported.

How to Migrate From PAR Brink POS to Odoo

PAR data may sit across POS, OPS, PAR Engagement, payment services, and third-party integrations. The migration must identify which source owns each record before building its Odoo equivalent.

1. Audit Locations, Licenses, and Interfaces

Record the PAR POS version, registers, kitchen devices, corporate and franchise locations, merchant agreements, and enabled integrations. Identify the PAR OPS inventory and labor modules, PAR Ordering channels, Punchh loyalty programs, payment services, and accounting systems.

Document location-specific overrides, outstanding customer balances, gift-card obligations, open orders, and unresolved settlements. Confirm the level of access available to corporate administrators and franchise owners.

2. Export Supported POS Records and Map Menu Rules

The PAR POS Admin Portal supports separate exports for customers, sales, labor, settings, and surveys. Its documented Settings CSV export currently supports items only. It is not a complete export of modifier tiers, combos, kitchen routing, or location inheritance.

The export’s available item columns must be checked in the actual file. Do not assume it contains every price, tax, modifier, cost, or location rule.

Record to migrateRequired action
Item Settings CSVInspect actual columns; map available product fields
Modifier groups and tiersReconstruct selection limits, included choices and upgrade prices
Combo configurationPreserve component rules and substitutions
Location-specific menusReview published values and local overrides
Kitchen settingsMap routing, expo behavior and order destinations
Sales, customer and labor exportsArchive and reconcile according to supported formats

Use accessible configuration views, documented reports, and authorized integrations for records not included in the item CSV. A separate manual configuration inventory may be necessary for complex menu relationships.

3. Extract PAR OPS Inventory and Purchasing Records

PAR OPS maintains recipes, stock counts, vendor information, purchasing documents, waste, and labor records separately from the POS item export. Retrieve the relevant records through the customer’s authorized OPS tools or integrations.

Map recipe quantities, units, yields, supplier identities, warehouse locations, and opening stock. Count physical inventory before cutover. A theoretical-usage report should not be substituted for actual ingredient balances.

Where Odoo will track recipe consumption, configure and test the required process before opening the first restaurant on the new system.

4. Reconcile Sales and Accounting Exports

PAR POS sales exports can be formatted for an external accounting system, including QuickBooks IIF, rather than serving as a complete order-level transaction archive. Preserve the available sales, tax, tender, tip, discount, and deposit reports separately.

PAR OPS Export Accounting and Export Purchases support general-ledger and AP-related transfers. A successful “submitted to external integration” message confirms that a request was queued, not that the journal entry or invoice reached the destination.

Review the receiving accounting system and PAR OPS integration logs before accepting balances. PAR’s documented reprocessing rules can reject duplicate journal entries and invoices; do not repeatedly resubmit records without checking their delivery and status. Outstanding refunds, processor deposits, gift cards, and loyalty liabilities need their own reconciliation.

5. Configure Odoo and Test Representative Locations

A phased Odoo implementation should configure products, prices, POS locations, modifiers, kitchen routing, taxes, employee permissions, payment methods, warehouses, purchasing, and accounting.

Test complete orders involving premium substitutions, combo rules, rush-hour kitchen sequencing, refunds, online orders, and batch settlement. Also verify purchase receipts, invoice mismatches, stock transfers, and opening journal balances.

For franchise networks, validate which menus and reports each organization can view or modify. Separate legal entities may need company-specific access and accounting settings.

6. Complete Cutover and Retain Historical Records

At each rollout location, reconcile final PAR sales, deposits, open orders, inventory, and customer balances. Identify the authoritative system for each transaction during any parallel operation so that orders are not posted twice.

Confirm staff training, equipment readiness, kitchen service, and payment recovery before retiring the old setup. Preserve historical reporting and audit records according to the applicable business and legal requirements.
