Odoo POS vs GoTab: Restaurant Features, Pricing, and Migration

Odoo POS is a strong GoTab alternative for restaurants that want sales, supplier purchasing, inventory, and accounting connected within one ERP system. GoTab specializes in QR ordering, roaming guest tabs, kitchen coordination, and food-hall vendor payments. Odoo connects restaurant transactions with warehouses, vendor bills, financial accounting, and other business operations.

Replacing GoTab requires careful migration of shared tabs, menu options, stock-depletion rules, kitchen zones, and merchant settlements. A menu download alone cannot preserve these relationships or reconcile open financial obligations.

Odoo’s advantage is the financial and operational record behind each sale. Purchasing, receiving, transfers, supplier invoices, and POS transactions can be managed in a configured ERP rather than reconciled across separate tools.

What Makes GoTab Different From a Traditional Restaurant POS?

GoTab builds service around a guest’s tab rather than only a physical table. A visitor can order drinks from a bar, scan a QR code on the patio, add food, and settle the combined check.

Its Easy Tab lets staff open a tab and share access using a QR code or SMS link. Easy Tab is included in GoTab Pro and Sync; Basic charges another $25/month. Basic includes QR and online ordering plus preauthorized tabs, but multiple zones and dynamic routing require Pro or Sync.

GoTab also supports food halls in which independent merchants receive items on their own kitchen displays and settle their own share of a combined guest payment. Odoo supports multiple POS configurations and companies, but independently owned vendors sharing one guest checkout need an approved payment and remittance design.

GoTab vs Odoo: Restaurant Service and Business Operations

QR Ordering, Roaming Tabs, and Staff Service

GoTab combines QR ordering with registers, handhelds, kiosks, and staff service. Its mobile ordering runs in a browser, so guests do not need to download an application.

With eligible Easy Tab and multi-zone features, guests can move between service areas without abandoning a check. Staff may add items, transfer a tab, and divide the balance across guests.

Odoo POS provides restaurant floor plans, order transfers, split bills, tips, courses, and configured self-ordering. A brewery can use Odoo for counter sales and tables while connecting its inventory and accounting records.

A migration must define three behaviors:

  • Tab ownership: Whether the guest, table, employee, or service zone controls the active check.
  • Shared access: Who can add items, view the tab, split payments, or change an order.
  • Card handling: When a payment is authorized, adjusted, captured, and tipped.

An open Odoo order should not be treated as automatically equivalent to GoTab’s guest-shared Easy Tab. The selected Odoo payment integration also determines supported preauthorization behavior.

Food-Hall Ordering and Vendor Settlement

GoTab’s multi-vendor system offers a shared ordering experience across separate merchants. Each vendor controls its menu, while orders reach the appropriate preparation station.

In eligible food-hall deployments, GoTab uses Adyen to allocate guest payments and remit proceeds to vendors. GoTab’s food-hall FAQ describes settlements that separate each merchant’s sales, taxes, tips, fees, and applicable deductions.

A customer could purchase a pizza, coffee, and dessert on one tab while the venue needs three merchant-level settlements. Posting the full guest payment as the food-hall operator’s restaurant revenue would misstate the participating businesses’ accounts.

Odoo can maintain separate company ledgers and POS records. Automated multi-merchant split payments require compatible processor arrangements or an integration. The migration must distinguish guest-facing totals, the venue’s fees, vendor liabilities, and deposits into individual merchant accounts.

Kitchen Displays, Service Zones, and Guest Updates

GoTab KDS provides PREP and EXPO views. PREP shows assigned work; EXPO coordinates fulfillment across stations. GoTab’s KDS guidance covers routing, display setup, and preparation workflows.

At a food hall, a guest’s burgers can reach a grill station while drinks go to a bar. Expo coordinates handoff without showing each operator another vendor’s unnecessary details.

Odoo’s preparation displays and printers can direct products to configured stations. Restaurant courses support timing between starters, mains, and desserts.

The move must test zone-specific kitchen routing, held orders, product changes after submission, station completion, and notification messages. GoTab’s cross-vendor visibility and kitchen-to-guest communication are not automatically replicated by standard Odoo displays.

Inventory Items, Options, and Recipe Depletion

GoTab’s newer Inventory Management tracks stock through inventory items, often called SKUs, linked to products and options. A pint may deduct 16 ounces from a beer SKU while a taster deducts four. An additional side can consume its own ingredient SKU.

Locations established on or after October 1, 2026 start with the new system. Older locations may still have Legacy Product Inventory, which tracked stock differently. GoTab documents several limitations:

  • One inventory item can be linked per product in the newer model; additional ingredients can be linked through options.
  • An out-of-stock action can apply after the sale that empties the inventory item, allowing some counts to go negative.
  • When moving from Legacy Product Inventory, par targets do not carry over; locations must document them, recount stock, and test sales after conversion.

Odoo Inventory manages warehouses, receipts, internal transfers, adjustments, and replenishment. A central kitchen can receive ingredients once and record their distribution to multiple restaurants.

Standard Odoo POS does not deduct all raw ingredients automatically when a prepared dish sells. Recipe consumption needs a configured manufacturing, production, or comparable process. GoTab conversion factors, menu-option links, opening counts, and availability rules must be mapped explicitly.

Opsi, Supplier Purchasing, and Receiving

GoTab offers additional back-office applications through Opsi by GoTab. Its Opsi integration covers recipe costing, invoice processing, theoretical inventory, and tasks, depending on subscribed modules.

Odoo Purchase manages supplier orders and replenishment. Inventory records receipts, while Odoo Accounting handles the resulting vendor bills and journals.

If a restaurant orders 60 cases of produce but receives 54, Odoo can preserve the ordered and received quantities, investigate the supplier invoice, and transfer available stock to a different location.

For an operator already using Opsi, ingredient recipes and supplier invoices may live outside GoTab’s Product Catalog. They require separate authorized exports and opening-balance reconciliation, not assumptions based on the menu.

Reporting, Guest Liabilities, and Multiple Locations

GoTab’s Manager Dashboard provides sales, product-mix, labor, and multi-location reporting. QuickBooks Online and Xero integrations are included on Pro and Sync, with an additional charge on Basic.

Guest obligations may include gift cards, house accounts, event deposits, loyalty benefits, and unsettled tabs. For multi-vendor venues, outstanding remittances and vendor-specific fees must also be separated.

Odoo Accounting can record journals, taxes, payment clearing, and reconciliation alongside purchases and stock movements. A venue collecting an advance deposit for a future event needs to distinguish that liability from sales revenue earned when the event occurs.

The Odoo ERP for restaurants framework can coordinate warehouse and finance records across restaurants, catering, and other divisions. GoTab Master Catalog primarily addresses shared menu information. Its sync rules are not the same as warehouse transfers or multi-company financial consolidation.

GoTab POS vs Odoo POS Pricing

What Does GoTab Cost in 2026?

GoTab’s official pricing lists three monthly software tiers:

GoTab planAdvertised priceOrdering and service distinction
Basic$15/monthOne POS, QR/online ordering, preauthorized tabs
Pro$99/monthEasy Tab, multiple zones, dynamic routing, API
Sync$229/monthPro features plus OPServer enhanced offline service

Important add-ons include:

Optional servicePublished charge
Easy Tab on Basic$25/month; included in Pro/Sync
Additional POS or handheld$25/month Basic; $35/month Pro/Sync
KDS or kiosk$25/month Basic; $35/month Pro/Sync
OPServerNot available on Basic; $75/month Pro; included in Sync
Marketplace aggregation$55/month
Multi-location management$50/month on Pro/Sync
Automatic Remittances$15 per unit on Pro/Sync; unavailable on Basic
Gift cards$35/month
Opsi recipe or advanced inventory$45/month per selected module
Opsi invoice processing$85/month

The $15-per-unit remittance charge matters for food halls with multiple independent vendors. Confirm which units are billable under the merchant’s actual contract.

GoTab advertises in-person processing starting at 2.40% + $0.15 for qualifying Visa, Mastercard, and Discover transactions at locations processing less than $5 million annually. Its published table adds 0.85 percentage points for American Express, JCP, and corporate cards, and 1.5 points for international transactions. Actual merchant fees and setup charges require a quote.

Odoo POS Subscription Pricing

Standard$24.90 promotional; $31.10 regular per user/monthStandard business applications
Custom$49 promotional; $61 regular per user/monthCustomization, external API, multi-company

Standard and Custom amounts reflect annual billing and eligible first-year promotional rates. Paid plans include standard POS, Purchase, Inventory, and Accounting applications. One App Free does not grant unrestricted access to the ERP.

Odoo pricing excludes implementation, supported equipment, processing, integration, and applicable development costs.

Which Platform Offers Better Long-Term Value?

Odoo offers greater business-process coverage when restaurants need to combine sales with supplier purchasing, warehouse stock, and financial accounting. That becomes especially relevant for operators managing commissaries, catering, or multiple legal entities.

GoTab’s $15 starting tier covers a much narrower configured offering than a food hall with Easy Tab, kiosks, multi-vendor remittances, and Opsi. Compare actual deployed modules and financial workflows rather than treating entry-level subscriptions as equivalent systems.

GoTab vs Odoo: Hardware, Payments, and Offline Operations

GoTab supports compatible Windows, iOS, and Android hardware. Odoo also works with supported browser devices, receipt printers, and integrated payment terminals. Reusing an existing device depends on the exact model and payment-provider compatibility.

GoTab Sync includes OPServer, which helps eligible local POS, KDS, and payment equipment continue through an internet interruption. GoTab Pro offers OPServer for an additional $75/month; Basic does not. GoTab’s offline FAQ distinguishes eligible on-premises functions from guest QR and marketplace ordering, which still need internet connectivity.

Odoo can synchronize supported cached orders after reconnection, but integrated payment terminals do not operate offline in its documented standard workflow. Test tab persistence, kitchen printing, card authorization, and later settlement separately; offline order capture does not guarantee an approved card payment.

How to Migrate From GoTab POS to Odoo

GoTab records may be distributed across Product Catalog, Master Catalog, Data Hub, payment services, and Opsi. Menu downloads, inventory reports, and ledger/API data serve different purposes and should be requested separately.

1. Audit Locations, Tabs, Vendors, and Contracts

Record every location, revenue zone, independent vendor, device, kitchen station, processor, and selected GoTab plan. Identify Easy Tab, OPServer, Opsi, gift cards, deposits, memberships, and Automatic Remittances.

For food halls, document each merchant’s tax responsibility, banking destination, fee formula, tip allocation, and unpaid settlement amounts. Confirm which data and API access the merchant is authorized to obtain.

2. Download Menus and Map Options

GoTab’s Product Catalog tools document menu download functionality. The published instructions do not establish a universal CSV format, so verify the actual downloaded file, columns, and option relationships before choosing an import process.

GoTab configurationOdoo mapping
Products, categories, variantsProducts and POS categories
Option groups, quantitiesModifier selection rules
Menus, schedules and zonesPricelists, availability, service modes
QR spots and guest routesTables and ordering destinations
PREP/EXPO station rulesPreparation displays and printer routing
Shared tab permissionsGuest and staff order workflows
Vendor-specific catalogsCompany and outlet assignments

Document menu differences at every location. In the new Master Catalog, linked products update automatically from the parent, but kitchen stations, tax rates, courses, and stock counts never synchronize. Export or record those settings separately at each site.

GoTab also has an earlier Master Catalog version in which publishing worked differently. Confirm which is installed. New-version Force Sync removes local overrides and cannot be undone; preserve intentional differences before any catalog reset.

3. Reconcile Inventory Models, Recipes, and Counts

Identify whether each location uses Legacy Product Inventory or the October 2026 Inventory Management model. In the newer model, one inventory item per product is the documented limit, with additional ingredients tracked through option-level links.

Download the available Inventory Depletion report and inspect sales, receipts, recounts, and custom adjustment reasons. It is not a complete Opsi invoice or recipe export.

During legacy conversion, preserve par targets separately because they do not migrate automatically. Record unit conversions, SKU links, and variant prices, then perform physical counts and test representative orders before importing Odoo opening stock.

4. Export Financial Data by Fiscal Day

GoTab Data Hub supports reporting exports. Eligible Pro and Sync merchants may also use GoTab’s REST and GraphQL APIs with authorized credentials.

Filter transaction extracts by fiscalDay, not only calendar timestamps. A tab opened before midnight and closed afterward can belong to one GoTab business day. Its indexed fiscalDay also supports efficient large queries.

For financial reconciliation, GoTab distinguishes:

  • ledgerEntriesList: Settled data suited to end-of-day accounting and financial exports.
  • realTimeLedgerEntriesList: Live state, including open tabs, suited to operational monitoring.

Reconcile both where appropriate without double-counting open activity as settled revenue. Compare vendor-level remittances, payment fees, tax, tips, deposits, gift liabilities, and outstanding tabs against processor records. Historical orders may need to remain in an accessible archive rather than being recreated as native Odoo sessions.

5. Configure Odoo and Test Guest-to-Ledger Workflows

Configure menus, tables, kitchen displays, taxes, payment methods, vendors, warehouses, purchasing, and accounting. Define whether Easy Tab behavior or multi-vendor settlement requires an approved integration or targeted development.

A phased Odoo implementation should test a tab opened at the bar, used on a patio, and split at checkout. For a food hall, test a guest purchase from two merchants, correct kitchen routing, vendor fees, taxes, and separate settlement records.

Test supplier receipts and bills, ingredient consumption where configured, and offline recovery using actual equipment.

6. Complete Venue and Merchant Cutovers

Reconcile final GoTab sales, unsettled payments, tips, gift cards, event deposits, Opsi payables, and opening inventory at every location. Define which platform owns each sale during parallel operation to prevent duplicate accounting entries.

Train staff, replace QR destinations, test KDS routing and payment terminals, and preserve historical exports. For food halls, confirm each vendor’s settlement position before retiring the former payment workflow.
