The Challenge: A Stalled Odoo Implementation

AV Lauttamus Communications, a multi-entity communications and field service company with more than 40 users, had already invested nine months with a previous Odoo implementation partner before coming to Adatasol Solutions. By the time they reached out, the project was in serious trouble.

Core data had not been imported correctly. Product categories were misconfigured, and because Odoo’s product structure cascades from category settings, that single upstream error had rippled through the entire product catalog. To make matters more complex, products had been imported into all three of Lauttamus’s companies in Odoo — even though most of that data was only relevant to one.

Many of Lauttamus’s operational modules were reasonably close to their intended configuration. But two things stood between the company and a usable system: their team had never been properly trained on the software they were expected to run their business on, and Accounting — arguably the most business-critical module of all — had not been implemented at all.

After nine months without a working system, the Lauttamus team was, understandably, extremely frustrated. They needed a partner who could diagnose what had actually gone wrong, fix it without starting over from scratch, and get them live.

Why Odoo Implementations Fail (And What It Looked Like Here)

Failed or stalled Odoo implementations tend to share a common root cause: foundational configuration mistakes made early in the project don’t get caught until much later, by which point they’ve cascaded into every downstream module. In Lauttamus’s case, that meant:

  • Broken product category structure that had corrupted the product catalog built on top of it
  • Incorrect multi-company data placement, with product records duplicated across three companies instead of scoped to the one that needed them
  • Incomplete data migration, leaving gaps in the records Lauttamus needed to actually run the business
  • No user training, so even correctly configured modules weren’t being adopted
  • No Accounting implementation whatsoever, meaning the company still could not invoice, reconcile, or close its books in Odoo after nine months of work

This is a common pattern in stalled Odoo rollouts: the more “visible” modules (CRM, Sales) get partial attention while Accounting — which requires the most upstream data to be correct before it can even begin — gets pushed to the end and never completed.

The Rescue: Adatasol’s Approach

Adatasol Solutions was brought in to take over the existing implementation rather than start over — a faster and lower-risk path, but one that required carefully untangling what was already in the system before building forward.

Contacts, Products & Multi-Company Cleanup

The team audited and corrected the product category structure, then rebuilt the product catalog to align with the corrected categories. Product data was re-scoped so that records lived only in the Lauttamus company they actually belonged to, eliminating the confusion and data integrity risk of unnecessary cross-company duplication.

CRM, Sales, Purchase & Field Service

Because most of these modules had been reasonably well configured for Lauttamus’s use case, Adatasol focused on validating configurations against real business workflows, correcting the gaps caused by the upstream data issues, and preparing the modules for a trained, confident user base.

Timesheet

Timesheet tracking was aligned with Lauttamus’s Field Service operations so that time entries flowed correctly into the business processes that depended on them.

Accounting — The Critical Path

Implementing Accounting from a standing start, on top of a system with historical data issues, was the largest single piece of work in the engagement. Adatasol had to first ensure the underlying data — contacts, products, and company structure — was clean and correctly scoped before Accounting could be configured on solid ground. From there, the team built out the Accounting module to support Lauttamus’s invoicing, reconciliation, and financial reporting needs across all three companies.

User Training

With the system corrected and fully configured, Adatasol trained Lauttamus’s 40+ users across every module, addressing the adoption gap that had been one of the original project’s biggest failure points.

The Results: Live in Under 3 Months

Where the previous partner spent nine months without reaching a usable go-live, Adatasol Solutions took over the project, corrected the underlying data and configuration issues, fully implemented Accounting, trained the entire user base, and brought AV Lauttamus Communications live across Contacts, Products, CRM, Sales, Purchase, Field Service, Timesheet, and Accounting — in under three months.

AV Lauttamus went live last week and the team is reporting that they are, in their own words, generally very happy with the system.

“Adatasol took what would have been a failed implementation and turned it around on time and within budget.”

— Tracey Kinder, General Manager, AV Lauttamus Communications

Why This Matters for Companies Stuck in a Failed Odoo Implementation

AV Lauttamus’s experience is not unique. Companies across communications, field service, and other industries frequently find themselves partway through an Odoo implementation that has stalled, gone over budget, or simply isn’t working — often with Accounting left unfinished because it depends on getting everything else right first.

An Odoo implementation rescue doesn’t have to mean starting from zero. In this case, Adatasol Solutions was able to:

  • Diagnose the specific upstream data and configuration errors causing downstream failures
  • Correct multi-company data scoping issues
  • Fully implement Accounting on top of an already-live system
  • Train a 40+ person team across eight modules
  • Deliver a full go-live in under three months — a fraction of the nine months already spent

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if my Odoo implementation partner fails to deliver?

A stalled or failed Odoo implementation can often be rescued without a full restart. An experienced Odoo partner can audit the existing configuration and data, identify the root causes of the failure — commonly incorrect product/category setup, multi-company data errors, or incomplete Accounting configuration — and correct them in place.

Can Odoo Accounting be implemented after other modules are already live?

Yes, but it requires the underlying data (contacts, products, company structure) to be accurate first, since Accounting depends on that data. In AV Lauttamus’s case, cleaning up this foundational data was the critical step that made a complete Accounting implementation possible.

How long should an Odoo implementation take for a 40+ user company?

Timelines vary by scope, but AV Lauttamus Communications went from a stalled, non-functional nine-month implementation to a full company-wide go-live — across Contacts, Products, CRM, Sales, Purchase, Field Service, Timesheet, and Accounting — in under three months with Adatasol Solutions.
